2023 Trial Program

Learn the intricacies of voir dire, opening statement, direct and
cross-examination, and closing.

The San Diego Inn of Court Trial Program is for both new and experienced attorneys who want to learn and polish their trial skills. The Program takes place on 8 evenings over 4 consecutive weeks. It includes four lectures and demonstrations by prominent San Diego trial attorneys and members of the judiciary, including featured lecturer, Hon. Robert J. Trentacosta.  Each lecture/demonstration focuses and four “hands on” workshops facilitated by experienced workshop leaders and local judges.

For the workshops, participants are assigned to a team of six students. Each student has a partner, and are assigned to a specific fact pattern, representing either the plaintiff or defendant.

The format is a Thursday lecture followed by a workshop the next Tuesday:

Trial Program objectives include:

• Conducting competent voir dire
• Opening statement
• Direct and cross-examination
• Laying an appropriate foundation
• Using exhibits
• Making objections
• Closing argument

Enrollees receive fact patterns and program materials as well as additional instructional materials.

• Private Practice - $450.00
• Public/non-profit - $400.00

Refund Policy
A full refund minus a $25 administrative fee 7 days prior to the event. Any cancellations made between less than 7 days prior to the event start date are eligible for a 50% refund.

Registration, attendance, or participation in San Diego Inn of Court workshops and activities constitutes an agreement by the registrant to allow the San Diego Inn of Court to use and distribute (both now and in the future) the registrant or attendee's image or voice in photographs, video recordings, electronic and print reproductions, and audio recordings of such workshops and activities.
