Ian Williamson

Biography

Ian Williamson is a Deputy City Attorney in the City of San Diego’s Office of the City Attorney. He litigates all types of civil cases brought against the City and represents the City in claims against entities that owe the City a defense or indemnity for claims brought by third parties or harm suffered by the City. Prior to joining the City, he spent 28 years in private practice insurance defense litigation in mid-sized, small and Am-Law 100 environments. He has represented property owners, product manufacturers and well- known companies in all types of civil litigation. He also has more than ten years of experience in insurance coverage and contribution litigation with four published appellate decisions to his credit in that field. Mr. Williamson has started jury selection more than 24 times and has had 13 cases go to judgment via jury trial, bench trial or arbitration. He has also worked on approximately 20 appeals.

Ian has been a Workshop Leader for the San Diego Inn of Court Evidence and Trial Practice Programs for several years. Ian also was one of the presenters on the topic of voir dire during the Trial Practice program.
