Judge Trentacosta has served as Presiding Judge of the San Diego Superior Court; Assistant Presiding Judge, Supervising Criminal Judge; Supervising Judge of the South Bay Courthouse; and Assistant Supervising Juvenile Court Judge.

Hon. Robert Trentacosta
Judge Trentacosta is the former Presiding Judge of the San Diego Superior Court (2012-2013). He has held numerous leadership positions within the court including Assistant Presiding Judge (2010-2011); Supervising Criminal Judge (2008-2009); Supervising Judge of the South County Division (2006-2007); and Assistant Supervising Judge of the Juvenile Division (2014-2018). Judge Trentacosta has served as a trial judge hearing felony jury and bench trials. He also spent years in the Readiness Departments negotiating felony cases and serving as the sentencing judge. He has presided over various specialty courts including Domestic Violence, Drug Court, Homeless Court, Behavioral Health Court and the Parole/PRCS Calendars. Prior to his appointment to the bench in 2001, Judge Trentacosta was a trial lawyer who served as President of the Consumer Attorneys of San Diego (2000), and President of the San Diego Inn of Court (1997). He is the recipient of a Lifetime Achievement Award from SDIC (2008). Judge Trentacosta is a frequent lecturer for the Judicial Branch and local Bar and Trial Lawyer groups. He is an Adjunct Professor of Law at California Western School of Law where he teaches Trial Practice.
